Ceremonial opening of the TEC CENTER h1>
The new TEC CENTER of the EJOT group in Bad Laasphe is a place for technical progress and transfer of knowledge. Here, a campus arose where research, development, application engineering and development of products are located. “With this new building, we created a place where brilliant minds assemble and launch innovations,” the CEO of the EJOT group, Christian Kocherscheidt, emphasized at the ceremonial opening. In operation the new building is carbon-neutral. Ecology and efficiency play a central role and underline the strategic goal of the EJOT group to reduce the CO2 emission to zero until 2035.
“Today we are more and more interested in the ecological footprint of a building and the clarification of composition and harmlessness of contents,” elaborated Prof. Burkhard Pahl of PWP-planning company from Darmstadt. It was not only about building and managing resource-conserving but also about looking at the whole cycle of life – from the idea of the product to renaturation. Experts call it “circular building”.
Wood is the dominating raw material for the TEC CENTER: A supporting structure out of high-strength “Baubuche” (hardwood laminated veneer lumber), walls out of “Holzsandwichtafeln” (CLT-technology), ceilings out of “Brettstapel”, partly as composite wood structure, dividers for the office space out of wood frame walls with “Lehmbautafeln”. Facade greenery, green retention roofs for water retention, photovoltaic and geothermic complement the integral concept. By building the TEC CENTER with a “Passivhaus character” and these raw materials, it has accomplished the increased KfW 40 requirements for funding with CO2 neutral operating. The building is built on 400 mineral, water-permeable stone columns and on a packet of recycled foam glass. It was renounced from petroleum-based insulant, it was mostly renounced from using plaster board and fully renounced from using energy-intensive tiles. Building costs amount ca. nine million Euro, the amount of funding from the Federal Government for this innovative concept is ca. one million Euro.
On the ground-floor there is a large space for customers where they can experience EJOT in an augmented reality in 3D. The showroom provides a lounge atmosphere and products they can touch. A large room for seminars for about 60 people has the character of an auditorium. Another big conference room and a space for catering complement this area. Furthermore, there are technical facilities such as workshops, check rooms, climatic chambers for conditioning of pulp and plastic, a room for 3D printers, plus a digitally equipped creative room which combines a conference room, workshop, and function room.
On the top floor are mostly offices and conference rooms for technical department and also offices that can be used flexibly (e.g. for colleagues that have to work temporary at this location or only temporarily need a working space).
Christian Kocherscheidt emphasized that innovations and knowledge are a constant incentive and permanent challenge. “We can only persist if we are the best.” We at EJOT could only compensate the deteriorating parameters at the location of Germany, which is no longer the address for new things, by having a high product quality. Kocherscheidt: “Abroad, you can produce products cheaper which we also do but our roots lie in Germany and with our quality products we will fight for it to stay this way.”
